THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN THE HANDMAID ’S TALE FROM AN ECOFEMINIST PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
According to an ecofeminist perspective, this research attempts to explore the ripple effect of violence against women in The Handmaid's Tale. The following paper has been divided into two parts. A discussion of Atwocd's political awareness, as well as her genuine concern for the rights of women takes up much of the first half of the br›nk. The first portion of The Handmaid's Tale also delves into a slew of underlying environmental difficulties that exist inside Gilead's civilization, which are produced and governed by the ruling bodies of a despotic theocrac y. The second section of the paper examines how Gilead, in Margaret Atwocd's novel The Handmaid's Tale, is a geographical and social nightmare, a dreaded place where the fate of women and the fate of the land are entwined. lt is the purpose of this section of the study to investigate how respect for natural motherhood could be biased into the crucial legitimization for a reproductive fundamentalism that governs every aspect of a persons life. In addition to being an engaging story told by a handmaid, The Handmaid's Narrative serves as urgent warning for environmental deterioration, dex’astation, and exploitation of nature will present itself as a significant danger to the lives of succeeding generations, according to a recent alert. With The Handmaid's Tale, as a hypothetical fiction, the author hopes to depict the t ype of broken, dictatorial, and sterile societ y that might exist if ecological crisis is not dealt properly, as well as how human stupidit y and greed damage the environment and ultimately, the people. The research topic is: How can the sexual violence and gender equalit y that can be seen in Gilead culture, as well as the plundering of the environment, be explained using an ecofeminist approach’?
